Peabody Stadium Renovation

YAY! We made our $100,000 “graduation” matching challenge grant.

Thanks to everyone who took advantage of the matching challenge grant and helped us raise an extra $100,000 for the stadium. THANK YOU.

Join us in supporting this once-in-a-century project…

For 90 years, Dons of all ages, races, and backgrounds have gathered in Peabody Stadium to learn, play, celebrate, and build community — all while cultivating the tremendous spirit and tradition that make Santa Barbara High School uniquely vibrant and meaningful for its students.

Almost a century of use has taken its toll on Peabody Stadium. The grandstand does not meet current building or accessibility codes, the asphalt track is effectively unusable, and the delicate natural grass field is open only for football, soccer, and lacrosse games. Our PE students and athletes do not have regular access to this basic and essential facility, and our friends and neighbors are not able to enjoy this potentially wonderful community resource.

With your help, we can renovate Peabody Stadium to preserve its celebrated history and assure that it will serve our students and the Santa Barbara community well into the next century. The renovation includes:

  • A new 2,300-seat concrete grandstand with classroom, team room, weight room, and press box,
  • A synthetic surface track that meets CIF regulations, and
  • An artificial turf combination football, soccer, and lacrosse field.

The Foundation must raise $5 million in private funds to make this project happen and maintain the great tradition of the Dons. As of June 2016, we have raised $4.9 million! The Santa Barbara Unified School District and State of California have already committed more than $11.7 million for the renovation.

Our renovated facility will be space for all community members to enjoy. If you would like to receive a complete brochure describing the renovation, please sign up for our Foundation news (right side of this webpage).

Gifts of all sizes are needed and appreciated. Many classes are pooling donations to purchase seats or put their name on the donor wall.

Individual seats are available for naming at $1,000 per seat (26 digit maximum). Hurry though — we only have about 200 seats left to name! All donations of $10,000 or more will be honored on the new permanent donor wall. Naming opportunities are available for gifts of $100,000 or more. (Please contact the Foundation for information.)

Past Projects

JR Richards Gymnasium Renovation

In 2013, the beautiful, newly renovated JR Richards Gymnasium reopened. The District and Foundation collaborated on this $1 million project. Community member, alumni, and current families contributed more than $300,000 to refurbish the gym, install a new floor, new ceiling, new lighting, new scoreboards, and new equipment for our students and the larger community.
