Thank you to everyone who contributed and who helped us raise funds for the stadium to push us over the $5,000,000 mark!
It’s still possible to contribute to the project by participating in “Name a Seat” or to make a major gift and be recognized on our “Stadium Donor Wall.”
Individual seats are available at $1,000 per seat (26 digit maximum for all names – including spaces and special characters). Call us to donate ASAP, because we only have about 25 seats left to name! 805-966-9101 X5225 and ask for Diyana Dobberteen.
All donations of $10,000 or more will be honored on the new permanent donor wall. Naming opportunities are available in specific locations for gifts of $100,000 or more. (Please contact staff at the Foundation for more information about these opportunities).
Gifts of all sizes are appreciated. Many graduating classes are pooling donations to purchase seats or put their name on the donor wall. Perhaps your best pals, favorite school club or family want to leave a legacy in the new stadium.
Why would you lend support to this once-in-a-century project?
Almost a century of use has taken its toll on Peabody Stadium. The grandstand is not meeting current building or accessibility codes, the asphalt track is effectively unusable for running, and the delicate natural grass field is open only for football, soccer, and lacrosse games. Our PE students and athletes do not have regular access to this essential school facility, and need a new track and field to train on. Friends and neighbors will soon be able to enjoy what will very quickly be transformed into a first-rate, appealing community resource to recreate, celebrate, and build community — all while cultivating the tremendous spirit and tradition that make Santa Barbara High School uniquely vibrant and meaningful for its students.
The Foundation raised more than $5 million in private funds to make this project happen and to improve this community in the great tradition of the Dons. By the end of June 2016, we met our $5 million goal. The Santa Barbara Unified School District and State of California have committed additional millions for the project, recently supplemented with school bonds passed by voters in recent years. We anticipate additional expenses for purchasing new track and field equipment for the stadium and may have other costs tied to moving into to this new space.

By next school year, we will be renovating Peabody Stadium to preserve its celebrated history and assure that it will serve our students and the Santa Barbara community well into the next century. The current plan for the renovation includes:
- A new 2,300-seat concrete grandstand with interior team room, weight room, and press box
- A synthetic surface track that meets CIF regulations
- An artificial turf combination football, soccer, and lacrosse field
JR Richards Gymnasium Renovation
In 2013, the beautiful, newly renovated JR Richards Gymnasium reopened. The District and Foundation collaborated on this $1 million project. Community member, alumni, and current families contributed more than $300,000 to refurbish the gym, install a new floor, new ceiling, new lighting, new scoreboards, and new equipment for our students and the larger community.
